Magnesium for Sleep

The Best Calming Supplement (Trust Me, I’ve Tried Them All)

Whether you’re a light sleeper like me, or are one of the many people aiming to regulate their nervous system to achieve optimal rest, I’ve found the absolute best calming supplement that has every ingredient you need for a great night’s sleep. What’s even better is that you’ll also wake up feeling super refreshed and rested the next day (no grogginess here). It has everything from adaptogens, to L-theanine, to magnesium for sleep support, and I am so excited to share this amazing new product with you all.

If you’ve read my content, you know that I’m a huge Sprout Living fan across the board; I’m obsessed with their ultra clean plant-based protein powders (which also happen to be the best tasting) as well as their hydration drinks. So I was elated to learn that Sprout Living was launching their new Colorfuel Calm Drink Mix in collaboration with Consciously Kay so I could add yet another one of their products to my wellness arsenal. And when I saw the ingredients in this drink mix, I was seriously impressed.

Let’s get into why Sprout Living Colorfuel Calm Drink is the best calming supplement I’ve found (and I’ve tried a lot of them).

Why Sprout Living Colorfuel Calm is the best calming supplement on the market.

I struggled with insomnia for many years (which actually improved drastically when I went vegan, believe it or not), but I’m still a light sleeper and require a very dialed-in nighttime regimen.

I have a good night’s sleep drilled down to a science at this point, which includes:

  • No caffeine after 1:00 p.m.
  • No sugar after 7:00 p.m.
  • No screens after 8:30 p.m.
  • Reading in bed by 9:00 p.m.
  • Asleep by 9:45 p.m.

I’ll also typically make some kind of nighttime beverage after dinner to help me wind down, which oscillates between adaptogens, golden milk, magnesium beverages, or an herbal bedtime tea. But now with Sprout Living’s Calm Drink, I’m able to get virtually every ingredient needed for an optimal night’s sleep with zero grogginess the next day. It even comes in individual packets so it’s easy to travel with – which is often when we need sleep support most!

Let’s break down the ingredients in Sprout Living’s Colorfuel Calm Drink.

Magnesium glycinate (300mg): There’s a good reason for why people have really started to turn to magnesium for sleep support over the past few years. Highly bioavailable and effective for relaxation, magnesium glycinate is a phenomenal calming supplement as it helps to soothe your nervous system by decreasing cortisol levels, regulating melatonin (the hormone responsible for your sleep cycle), and helping to relax your muscles.

L-theanine (200mg): An amino acid that promotes relaxation by increasing alpha-1 waves (without next-day drowsiness), while helping to induce faster sleep onset and reduce middle-of-the-night wake ups.

Reishi Extract (300mg): The reishi mushroom is an adaptogen that helps to calm and regulate your nervous system. It has been used in Eastern medicine for ages and shown to support a healthy stress response and improve sleep quality, overall.

GABA (150mg): Short for gamma-aminobutyric acid, GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter in our brain, i.e., it helps to gently reduce brain and nerve overactivity so that you can ease into a restful state. It also helps to support the body’s natural circadian rhythm. It’s really one of the best calming supplements out there and I was thrilled to see it included in this drink mix.

Passionflower extract (250mg): You’ll often see passionflower in herbal bedtime teas, and that’s because it also helps to naturally increase GABA levels in the brain. It can help you fall asleep faster and improve overall sleep quality.

Acerola cherry (200mg): Because a healthy immune system and good sleep go hand-in-hand, Sprout Living even thought to add acerola cherry to their Calm Drink, which is super rich in vitamin C.

Jerusalem artichoke (1500mg): This gut health powerhouse is a prebiotic inulin fiber to help support your digestive system before and during sleep.

FAQs

What’s an adaptogen?

There’s been a lot of talk around adaptogens, and for good reason; they’re excellent at naturally working with your body to support a healthy stress response. They are found in herbs, mushrooms, and roots such as ashwagandha, ginseng, and the powerhouse reishi mushroom that’s found in Sprout Living Colorfuel Calm Drink.

Why are people so obsessed with magnesium for sleep?

Magnesium is far from a gimmick; it’s long been touted for its multitude of health benefits including bone, heart, and digestive health, but over the past several years the market has really leaned into tapping into magnesium’s incredible sleep and relaxation benefits. It’s an essential mineral that does so much for our bodies, and while it is naturally occurring in some foods like leafy greens and certain nuts and seeds, most of us don’t get as much as we should through diet, alone. Magnesium is really one of the best calming supplements out there and has been a total game-changer for me.

Why is Colorfuel Calm better than magnesium alone?

While magnesium is undoubtedly a powerhouse for sleep and relaxation, it’s the unique combination of magnesium plus GABA, L-theanine, reishi, passionflower, and acerola cherry that make this the most well-rounded and effective natural sleep supplement I’ve encountered.

What makes Colorfuel Calm better than melatonin?

While melatonin is considered generally safe for short-term use, it is not recommended that people take it regularly or for extended durations. Colorfuel Calm is safe for long-term use and has no negative side-effects or next-day brain fog, which melatonin users often report. Melatonin can also cause headaches, dizziness, nausea, and drowsiness, which Colorfuel Calm does not. If you’re looking for a safe sleep supplement that doesn’t make you groggy, Colorfuel Calm is an excellent option and one that I feel great about consuming regularly because of the multitude of its benefits.

Is the Colorfuel Calm Drink vegan?

Yes! All of Sprout Living’s products are fully vegan (one of the many reasons why I love them)!

How does it taste?

I really like the taste of this drink – it has natural lemon and ginger root that offers an earthy-citrus-spice flavor that I find so soothing to drink before bedtime. I personally like mixing it into warm water, but you can also add it to tea or drink it with cold water, as well.

Are all of Sprout Living’s products third-party tested?

Yes, all of Sprout Living’s products are tested for things like heavy metals and other toxins that we want to keep out of our bodies. Their products are also certified organic and sourced from trusted farms and suppliers.

That’s it for my take on the best calming supplement!
