High Protein Vegan Meal Delivery

How to Eat Like Plant-Based Athletes

Whether you’re a pro or amateur, gearing up for spring training or a marathon, or just an average Jane like me who is fueling up to get stronger, there’s never been a better time to eat like the top plant-based athletes.

Here’s the dish: my friends over at Purple Carrot have joined forces with Peloton Head Instructor and New York Times best-selling author Robin Arzón on a limited edition launch featuring recipes inspired by Robin’s latest cookbook, Eat to Hustle, that will be released on March 10.

If you’re not familiar with Purple Carrot, it’s a vegan meal delivery service that I always recommend to anyone looking to streamline their weekday meals, up their protein intake, or simply add more plants into their diet.

Their latest collaboration with Robin aims to eliminate friction from eating delicious, nutrient-dense, high-protein vegan meals that fuel clean, long-lasting energy to power your workouts. It’s a great way to see what it’s like to eat like a plant-based pro athlete, but in an affordable, approachable way.

Plant-Based Athletes Diet

What does a plant-based athlete eat?

I thought you’d never ask! Just like any athlete, plant-based athletes are solving for strength, endurance, and recovery – all of which can be accomplished very well through a vegan diet. We’re talking high-quality, plant-based proteins, lots of complex carbohydrates, fiber-rich fruits and vegetables, and light to moderate amounts of healthy fats.

Not only can you be just as successful at building strength and muscle on a plant-based diet, but it actually has proven to be more helpful with athletic recovery, because muscle is built in recovery after it is broken down during exercise. Because plant-based diets are inherently going to be less inflammatory than meat and dairy-inclusive diets, and inflammation impedes recovery, it’s actually hugely beneficial for athletes to fuel themselves in this way. To better understand the research on plant-based diets and athletic performance, I highly recommend taking a look at this study.
