Sakara Review (From A Certified Plant-Based Health Coach)
If you’ve ever been intrigued by the cult-favorite, model-approved vegan meal delivery service known as Sakara, here’s an honest review from a health coach certified in plant-based nutrition (a.k.a., yours truly).
I’d heard about Sakara many times over the years and was always interested to see whether their food lived up to the hype. Once I received my certification in plant-based nutrition, I’d been delving more into the ingredients of the many vegan meal subscriptions out there, as I kept hearing from people that were interested in outsourcing their vegan meals. I’m super supportive of this approach for folks looking to tradition to plant-based eating but need an assist on weeknights, or even for cooking inspiration – some of the meal kits (as opposed to ready-made meals) are excellent for learning new recipes or for dipping your toes into plant-based cooking. I then aggregated my findings of the best vegan meal delivery services into this post and had the chance to try several of them for myself – Sakara included.
I had their Signature Program which includes 3 breakfasts, 3 lunches, and 3 dinners, and I am super excited to share my experience and review of Sakara’s meal delivery (if you’re looking to order, be sure to use code ANJSAKARA for 20% off)!

So without further ado, let’s dig into my Sakara review.
Nutrient Density
When it comes to whole food plant based meals, it really doesn’t get cleaner, and more nutritionally sound than Sakara. Their nine pillars of nutrition are personally very aligned with my own, and are as follows: 1) Nutrient Density; 2) Eat the Rainbow; 3) Plant Protein; 4) Eat Your Water; 5) Leafy Greens; 6) Sulfur-Rich Vegetables; 7) Good Fats; 8) Count Nutrients, Not Calories; and 9) Body Intelligence. With any of their nutrition programs, you just know you’re fueling your body with food that is not just meeting, but exceeding all of your body’s needs for optimal gut, brain, skin, and cellular regeneration and detoxification.
Ingredient Quality
The Sakara team is intentional about sourcing extremely high-quality ingredients from organic farmers and producers. They source produce from vendors like Radicle Farms, Letterbox Farms, and County Line Harvest. They also opt for superfoods from regions in the world known for the best quality ingredients, like goji berries from the Himalayas and moringa from Africa. Sakara’s entire menu is organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, and refined sugar-free.
Meal Taste & Variety
Sakara’s menus change weekly and rotate seasonally, incorporating ingredients that are at their nutritional peak. From my week with their Signature Program, I can attest to the incredible range of food and flavors. I was genuinely excited to try each and every meal – which is not always the case with some of my weekday lunches I throw together between meetings – and even more excited to write this Sakara review so I could share this incredible food with you all.
For the breakfasts, I had the pleasure of enjoying their Pink Poppyseed Muffin with berry jam and fresh kiwi (pictured above), Cacao Chip and Almond Waffles with Metabolism Super Powder (this was the STANDOUT – pictured in the header photo), and Sakara Glow Granola with Pink Silk Milk. All were incredibly delicious, light, and the perfect meal to start the day.
For the lunches, I had their Cleansing Kale Caesar pictured above (truly the best caesar dressing I’ve ever had – Sakara can you please start selling these by the bottle?!), and two other salads that were both fantastic and offered various styles of ancient grain and green bowls.
The dinners were also outstanding. I think my absolute favorite meal of the week was the Strength and Protection Noodle Bowl; think: pad thai, but somehow better, due to the incredible tamarind sauce, a cashew based crumble and toasted cashews – it was a 10/10. I also loved the Gardens of Babylon Burger (pictured), and Protein Power Plate with Turmeric Flatbread.
Portion Size
The portion sizes were surprisingly generous. Two of the lunch salads were so large that they served for two meals, the Protein Power Plate also provided me with two servings, and the granola portion was enough for 2-3 servings, as well. You also get three detox teas and one protein bar as a bonus!
Cost
Sakara’s Signature Program is $239/week for 9 meals at $26.50/meal – THAT SAID: it ended up being more like 12 meals for me because of the portion sizes, so it came out to $19/meal (and with code VEGANANJ, that’s $about $15/meal for your first order)! Sakara also offers additional, more specific programs such as their Level II: Detox, as well as their Sakara Experience, which is 4 weeks of the Signature Nutrition Program with added perks like virtual events with health experts, exclusive Sakara gifts like limited-edition dressings, access to Sakara’s community channel to connect with other members and 3 months of Alo Moves!
Sustainability
Sakara is conscious of reducing food waste and limiting their carbon footprint, which is so admirable. They also source organic produce and support farmers with responsible farming practices. All of their packaging is recyclable, and any ingredients that don’t make it into their delivered meals are composted or donated.
