Misfits Market Review (aka Imperfect Foods)

I recently had the chance to try Misfits Market and am here to share my experience with you all! If you’re interested in the benefits of using a food delivery service that’s focused on reducing food waste while delivering discounted, healthy produce and pantry staples conveniently to your doorstep, this post is for you.

I’m excited to get into my Misfits Market review, but first let’s address some FAQs:

How does Misfits Market work?

Misfits Market allows you to select a plan that works for your budget and grocery needs – you can receive orders as often as each week, or reduce the cadence as needed. Misfits rescues high-quality (sometimes funny-looking) food that’s fresh or shelf-stable that might otherwise go to waste or lesser outcomes – they rescue an average of 500,000 pounds of food every week! This could include produce with cosmetic quirks, irregular sizes, or are simply at a surplus, or pantry items that have small defects in their packaging but don’t affect the food, itself.

Misfits also created their own private label brand, Odds & Ends, that takes high-quality food and ingredients that may have been discarded due to cosmetic defects and turn them into excellent products at a reduced cost to customers. Despite the small blemishes the food might have – all of the quality remains extremely high, and the produce is very fresh.

Misfits will also help build your shopping cart based upon your preferences and budget, then you can remove whichever items don’t work for you. You’re given a specific shopping window to add or subtract items from your cart before your selected delivery day, so it’s super convenient – particularly for busy folks and families that don’t always have time to hit the farmer’s market or grocery store constantly.

Do they have a membership fee?

No, Misfits Market doesn’t have a membership fee, which we love!

What’s the difference between Misfits Market and Imperfect Foods?

If you’re confused by the difference between Misfits Market and Imperfect Foods, you’re not alone! I was a bit surprised to see that my Misfits Market order arrived in an Imperfect Box. But after quickly consulting Google, I learned that Misfits actually acquired Imperfect Foods back in 2022, so they’re now one company.

Do they have organic produce and packaged foods?

Yes! Misfits has a great assortment of organic food – from pantry staples to fresh produce. They also offer conventional (non-organic) as well, but the majority of their food is either organic or non-GMO.

I highly recommend Misfits Market. Not only are they a fantastic mission-driven company aiming to provide affordable access to healthy food and to fight the food waste crisis, but they are a convenient, reliable, way to feed you and your family. As someone who is constantly trying to find ways to reduce food waste, they’re a company that I feel really good about supporting while feeling confident in the quality of their food.

All of the produce that I tried was extremely fresh and high-quality, and they also carry some of my favorite vegan brands. In my last order, I received some purple sweet potatoes, carrots, broccoli, and spinach, as well as some of my favorite staples like Siete gluten-free tortillas, Dr. Praeger’s veggie burgers, Meati plant-based crispy chicken cutlets, Minor Figures barista oat milk, Lightlife tempeh, Miyoko’s butter, Treeline cheese, Hodo tofu, and Three Trees almond milk.

The prices are very affordable, as well – many of those brands I mentioned above were offered at a reduced price, and the produce was quite inexpensive, as well.
