Caraway Cast Iron Review – With Promo Code!
Cast iron cookware is essential for a well-stocked kitchen, and for good reason: it offers incredible benefits ranging from durability to adding more iron content to your food (really)! But choosing the right product for your home can be tricky; so I’ve taken the guesswork out of the equation and put Caraway‘s cast iron cookware line to the test so you don’t have to. Spoiler alert, it delivered. Read on for my comprehensive Caraway cast iron review and performance test!
The TL;DR: Caraway’s cast iron line ticks all of my boxes: it’s completely non-toxic, durable, high-performing, doesn’t require seasoning and special cleaning like traditional cast iron (this always intimidated me / deterred me from using cast iron more often), *and* it has a lifetime warranty. As I mentioned in my earlier review on Caraway’s ceramic non-stick cookware line, it can be overwhelming to scour the internet for non-toxic *and* truly non-stick cookware. But Caraway really walks the walk, and I feel that by cooking with their products, I’m doing something really positive for my health first and foremost, and that my cooking is also getting an upgrade because of how efficacious Caraway’s products are. Ultimately, there are so many brands out there that claim to be both non-toxic and non-stick; but after doing some research, I learned that some are really playing it fast and loose with their non-toxic designations.
Ok – let’s get into my Caraway cast iron review.
I opted for Caraway’s enameled cast iron set in cream, but it comes in six colors that are all so gorgeous, it’s admittedly very difficult hard to choose! And not only does it look beautiful on my stovetop (and matches my Caraway ceramic cookware line) but it’s an incredibly robust set, complete with a cast iron dutch oven, cast iron skillet, cast iron braiser, and cast iron grill pan. Specs for each piece are as follows:
Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven
- 10.5 in / 6.5 qt / 13.4 lbs
- Uses: chilis, soups, stews, breads (hello, sourdough)!
Enameled Cast Iron Skillet
- 10.5 in / 2.3 qt / 5.8 lbs
- Uses: cornbread, casseroles, cobblers, deep dish pizzas, one-pan dinners…the list goes on.
Enameled Cast Iron Braiser
- 10.5 in / 3.5 qt / 11.4 lbs
- Perfect for roasting, baked pastas, braised tofu or veggies.
Enameled Cast Iron Grill Pan
- 10.5 in / 2.1 qt / 6.3 lbs
- Perfect for burgers, paninis, marinated proteins and veggies, anything you want grilled!
Caraway cast iron efficacy and performance.
Caraway’s 3-layer enameled cast iron is extremely durable and is designed for even heating. It’s perfect for roasting, searing, slow cooking, baking, and more – the versatility is unmatched.
I’ve put it to the test with cornbread (pictured above), a delicious vegan curry, and for my vegan berry crisp so far, and can confirm that Caraway’s cast iron delivers. Because of Caraway’s enameled cast iron technology, it creates the perfect environment for evenly cooked food, slow-cooked food, and heat retention. The cookware also transitions seamlessly from the stovetop to the oven; and it’s all-stovetop compatible, meaning it’s gas, electric, and induction oven-safe up to 500 degrees fahrenheit.
And, as mentioned, Caraway’s cast iron line does not require seasoning! Which makes cleaning so much easier, in my opinion. Just let it cool completely after use, then wash with warm water and dish soap. Easy peasy.
And, as always, Caraway’s cast iron line is fully non-toxic, so you can rest assured that your food will be free from forever chemicals like PFAS, PTFE, PFOA.
Caraway cast iron review: non-toxic materials.
I know we’ve all heard about the importance of non-toxic cookware, but I think it’s essential to understand the why here. Standard non-stick often contains PTFE, also known as Teflon, which has been shown to release toxic fumes when heated that can cause respiratory damage and a slew of other issues. Standard non-stick cookware also often contains PFOAS and PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals,” that have been linked to things like developmental delays in children, reproductive issues in women, reduced immunity, hormone interference, and even increased risk of certain cancers.
Scary, right? But with Caraway, you can sleep at night knowing that their fully non-toxic cookware is free of PTFE, PFOA, PFAS, as well as heavy metals. Because of this, I truly believe they’re one of the safest cookware brands on the market – there are very few companies that take non-toxic cookware as seriously as Caraway does, so I give them a lot of credit for getting it right.
In addition to Caraway’s cast iron line, they offer incredible ceramic non-toxic cookware (my review for this line here) and the company also offers an array of other fantastic items. They have stainless steel non-toxic cookware, bakeware like muffin pans and baking sheets, beautiful food storage, steamers, kitchen linens, cutting boards, a tea kettle, cooking knives, utensils, and other fun gadgets.
